Registration for the 17th Annual USPTO Design Day has been made available and interested parties can register to attend in-person or virtually

Design Day 2024 will be held on May 9, 2024, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. ET, with options to attend either in-person at United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, or virtually. Attendees will gain valuable insights from USPTO design examiners, design patent practitioners, and industrial designers.

Quarles’ design practitioners have spoken at previous Design Days and will once again be in attendance at this year’s event, specifically Partner James Aquilina, Associate Rachel Ackerman, and patent professionals Harrison Powell and Audrey Jacobson.

This year’s event features:

  • Remarks and updates from Karen Young, the director of Technology Center 2900.
  • Targeted presentations on the new Design Practitioner Bar and the Supplemental GUI examination guidelines.
  • Overviews of important design-related cases from the district courts, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
  • Discussions on recent and anticipated changes in global design law.
  • A keynote address from Joshua Thrumond, the designer of the LavaBox portable campfire device.

Design Day is co-sponsored by American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO), and the USPTO.
